Algebra 2 — Period C

Lynn English High School · 2026–27 · Meets Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. Early-release Wednesdays are still class days.

The course

We use enVision Algebra 2. The year covers functions and their graphs, quadratics, polynomials, and rational functions, then bridges into radicals, exponentials, and trigonometry. Bring a charged Chromebook, a notebook, and a pencil every day.

An average day

  1. Take out your Chromebook. It needs to be charged. No phones.
  2. We open with a Blooket. Starting Monday, Sep 21, it is scored on your accuracy and on how many questions you answer. Your rank is for fun and candy; it is not part of your grade.
  3. Then we do one of two things. On packet days I work the lesson's Examples in OneNote on the board while you copy them into your packet, and you do the Try-Its at the end of the lesson. On IXL days we run a Web Jam on one skill.
  4. If we finish the Web Jam with time left, that time is yours.

The OneNote notebook and the class packet are on Schoology. If you are absent, use them to catch up.

What gets graded

PieceCategoryHow I score it
Daily EngagementEngagement10 points per class day. Daily Blooket counts accuracy and questions answered. A flashcard check can redeem a bad Blooket: I take your higher score and add half of your lower score, up to full credit. An absent day is no item, not a zero.
Try-ItsAssignments10 points each; latest score counts. Right with work: 10. Real effort but wrong, or right with no work: 8 (80%). Partial work: 1–7. Not attempted: 0. An unattempted Try-It becomes a provisional zero one week after I score that set for your section. It is not final: you can attempt or redo it any time, and your later attempt replaces the zero. Nothing counts as zero before I score the set.
IXL Web JamBonusYour accuracy at the end of the jam goes toward Bonus. Web Jams are for taking part and thinking out loud, so they can only help you.
IXL homework, when assignedBonusUp to the award I set. When I assign IXL homework, a SmartScore of 80 counts as complete. You do not need 100.
QuizAssessments20 points; latest score counts. In Quarter 1, one short quiz per lesson. Use your notes and class packet. Each question follows the Try-It rule: real effort but wrong, or right with no work, earns 80%.
Topic assessmentAssessments100 points; latest score counts. Retake any number of times; makeup and retake times announced in class. No topic test in Quarter 1: Topic 1's test is November 9–10.
BonusAssignments, extra credit0 points possible; bonus awards add up to at most 10 earned points per quarter.

I grade for evidence of your own thinking. Flashcards count through daily Engagement redemption.

I use the district formula: Assessments 50%, Assignments 40%, Engagement 10%. The minimums per quarter are 4 Assessments, 10 Assignments, and 10 Engagement items.

Bonus

Schoology has one Bonus column in Assignments. It is out of 0 points, so it can only add to your grade. You can earn up to 10 bonus points each quarter. Your best work from the first two weeks started it, with up to 3 points. You add to it with IXL homework finished at 80 or higher and with your accuracy at the end of an IXL Web Jam. Bonus is there to even out a rough quiz.

The first two weeks

Work through Friday, Sep 18 could only help you. It became your starting Bonus points and nothing from those weeks counts against you. Graded work starts Monday, Sep 21.
